Dr. Joshua & Evangelist Sherilyn Smith
Vice Presidents of Education, Health & Social Service
The pathway of Dr. Joshua and Evangelist Sherilyn Smith is one of faithfulness and determination to serve God through helping people get answers to problems faced in life. It is valuable to offer training that encourage people to realize Jesus Christ as personal LORD and Savior in order to assist people. Their belief is that everyone needs to learn how to be good citizens of God and their country; good neighbors with those that are met each day; and, good Samaritans with those who are in need.
Loving to Learn Clinics and Centers was realized after a vision from God was made clear in May 2002 through a chain of circumstances, giving rise to the Health, Education and Social Services Association. On March 18, 2002, Dr. Joshua Smith was asked by his soon to be wife, Sherilyn, to stop procrastinating and just do what God would have him to do. Only a little more than two months prior, they didn't know each other. After one month, God told Sheri that some day Joshua would be her husband. On that fateful Monday, Joshua heard a voice from God to marry Sherilyn. He asked her to marry him. And, they got married that evening at Southern California Community Bible College on Chapel break between classes before complete strangers. Rickie Tedford of The Fan Club was one of those strangers.
A licensed, ordained minister, career educator and Naturopathic Healing Doctor, practicing holistic herbal medicine, Dr. Joshua Smith has worked with children and youth since 1970. He started in 1986 an alternative school for troubled youth receiving in the early nineties the prestigious National Christian Educators Award and accommodations from the late Mayor of Los Angeles, Tom Bradley, for outstanding community service working with gang members. In June 2004, Dr. Smith was invited by the White House to a Conference on Faith-Based and Community Initiatives in Washington D.C. President Bush said, Go back and educate your people on the good work that you're doing in your community. On June 2nd at the U.S. Department of Education, he met with the former Secretary of Education Rod Paige in support of No Child Left Behind, sharing ideas that would make America a better place for children and families.
Evangelist Sherilyn Smith has worked for years, serving the church, her children and her community as a foster parent as well as a nurse working with senior citizens in Convalescent homes, the mentally ill in institutions and the sick in hospitals. In March 2006, they received an honored United States Congressional Award and three California government awards for outstanding community involvement working with children, teens and their families; as well as young adults and homeless families.
Now after four years of ministry, they have worked throughout California assisting ages one to ninety-nine with child, family and community ministerial crisis intervention. Everyone young or old, rich or poor has some sort of crisis or problem with others. We need Christ to solve our crisis! It is their desire that everyone develop skills to love one another through learning Biblical counseling, Christ-centered life coaching as well as ministerial personal and mentor training. They are assisting, training, certifying, ordaining and licensing all who have a heart for God to work as professional ministerial nonprofit community resource/referral agencies. They have founded The Word of God International University; United Fellowship for Crisis Intervention, International; The Word of God World Outreach (WGWO) at The Gardens in Chino, California; and Families for Jesus Ministries.
Sheri and I have known Rickie Tedford, since our marriage on March 18, 2002. It was an eventful day, culminating in a new focus, pathway and realization of life. Rickie walked up to us after our wedding and gave us each one half of a dollar bill. He whimsically asked us, How much was the dollar worth. We told him one dollar. He said, Only if you keep it together! And we have been working on doing so ever since that fateful day. We work 24/7 together in full-time ministry.
This was the beginning of our relationship not only with Rickie, but The Fan Club. The Fan Club is an opportunity to support youth and artists, encouraging them to reap the benefits of their hard work in a Biblical way. As Rickie encouraged us, it's very important to support children as well as adults, networking economically for the unity of faith. God is calling us to assist, care and share what we have with each other. Doing so requires an investment of time, effort and money. The Fan Club is a vehicle for doing just that, developing a strong, Christian community without a doubt.
